April 2010

A Note from the Board

Dear SinCC Members,

We’re delighted to report that our March 20-21 Handguns 101 Weekend was a huge success and very well attended. Our sincere thanks to gun expert Joel Ostrander for presenting such an excellent program! Michael Dymmoch has written up a report on the weekend (plus photos) that follows below in this newsletter. Thank you to to all members who participated.

Check out the interesting and informative  meetings we have  planned for April, May, June and --- (still in the works) – a return field trip to the Lake County Morgue with a presentation by the deputy coroner on a Saturday (date to be announced soon) in July. In August we will take a break and schedule no events until the Fall.

We’d like to remind everyone that it is now Spring, a.k.a. the beginning of the “dreaded road construction season” in the Chicago area.  So if you are planning to attend our chapter meetings at Centuries & Sleuths in Forest Park,  and normally drive the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290),  you might want to check in advance for alternate driving routes to the bookstore due to anticipated construction delays all up and down the Ike.  (With Harlem being the nearest North-South Street, Roosevelt Rd,  Washington, or North Avenue could be decent alternative East-West streets to take to Harlem, and then to Madison.)

We would also like to acknowledge the great job being done by our VP & Program Chair, Frances McNamara, and her committee who are organizing all these great programs for our chapter. Also, big thanks to Irene Reed for organizing the Lake Co. Morgue tour for us again this year.

Looking forward to seeing many of you at a meeting in the coming months – and, as always, thanks for your support of our chapter and for your encouragement.

 Best wishes,

 Annie, Frances, Ellie, and Claire
